Built in 1991 as the Crown Plaza, the hotel closed its doors in 1998. New owners acquired the property in 2002 and alongside IHE, identified the need for a mid-level family resort located near to all the tourist attractions of the metro area. After thorough brand analysis and research, it was concluded that Marriott was the correct affiliation to meet the needs of the determined market.

Through an investment of $26 million in repairs and remodel of the guest rooms, lobby, furnishings and opening of the Casino del Sol, this was the first Courtyard branded hotel in Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has named Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort the Best of the Best. In recent years, Marriott International has recognized the resort for its top management performance in various disciplines including operations, sales and revenue management.

In 2014, the hotel underwent a $15 million dollar investment that encompassed the renovation of the pool, all of its 260 rooms and suites with the new Cynergy room package. The enhancements also incorporates a new entrance, redesign of the lobby, bar and main restaurant.
